Mary is a 32 year old mother of five children. The oldest child, Mike (10), is an autistic child and the youngest child is 2. Mary sought help at FSEP because she felt lost and confused after getting out of a 14 year marriage in which she suffered severe physical abuse at the hands of her husband. She never worked while married and was not part of major decision making. The most debilitating problem was that she never felt in control of her children. Through the help of a skilled therapist, Mary was helped to structure her home, believe in herself, and begin working. Soon her self esteem rose, developed the ability to solve problems, developed the ability to nurture her children and increased her parenting skills. Mary and her children successfully completed therapy and are doing extremely well. |
